FAQ'S - TRAIL PROJECT

Frequently Asked Questions related to the Millennium Trail Section 5
(Dorchester Road to Drummond Road) project.

FAQ's - Trail Project: List

IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE INPUT ON MY PREFERENCES FOR FENCING AND LANDSCAPING TREATMENTS TO BUFFET MY PROPERTY FROM THE TRAIL?

Yes, but hurry!  As construction nears, some design elements may not be as flexible to last minute change in preference.

The City is working with affected Property Owners on final treatments to address privacy and security concerns.

The following fencing options are available, at no expense to the Property Owner:

1) Current fence

2) Current fence, with gate

3) Closed-board (Trail side) Wooden fence to a maximum of 8 feet

4) Closed-board (Trail side) Wooden fence to a maximum of 8 feet, with gate

All gates would include a locking mechanism on the private property side.

The City is also taking input of landscaping options, such as trees, shrubs and earth berms as part of its desire to satisfy Resident concerns.

To discuss your preferences, please contact Mr. Nick GOLIA at 905.356.7521 extension 4290 or e-mail at ngolia@niagarafalls.ca

WILL SECTION 5 CONNECT TO THE REST OF THE MILLENNIUM TRAIL SYSTEM?

Sort of.  Section 5 will not directly connect trail-to-trail, but instead will use enhanced and improved sidewalks and smaller sections of multi-use path adjacent to City roadways that lie between Section 5 and its neighboring Millennium Trail sections.

In the case of the west terminus at Dorchester Road, Section 5 will be bridged to Section 6 (Canada 150 Pathway) via an enhanced sidewalk which will cross over the Dorchester Road overpass.

In the case of the east terminus at Drummond Road, Section 5 will be bridged to Section 4 (Pasiley Janvary-Pool Pathway) via an enhanced sidewalk which will more closely resemble the size of the trail itself.  This pathway will guide users from Section 5, across Drummond at the Morrsion Street intersection and then along Morrsion to cross at Portage Road.  At that point, users will be in the parking lot for Section 4 and continue on their way.

While not as ideal as a trail-to-trail connection, which exists between Section 6 (Canada 150 Pathway) and Section 1 (John McCall MacBain Pathway), where the trail travels under Lundy’s Lane with no requirement for users to cross the roadway itself, the enhancements will be made with user safety and separation from roadway users in mind.

WHEN WILL CONSTRUCTION BEGIN?

The City anticipates construction to begin in Summer 2019.  The project will not commence until the Niagara Region Sewer Project is completed, which is expected in July 2019.

Until the City takes over the site, any construction activity is not directly related to the trail development.  The location of access roads and other work conducted by the Niagara Region does not reflect the final location of the trail as the City has designed.
